Feel free to add whatever chopped nuts you have at home.

Chocolate Bowls with a Balloon

With so many household hacks out there, the suggestions can sometimes get a little strange in the service of doing something different. And generally, the stranger they get, the less useful they become. This set of hacks from the Mr. Hacker YouTube channelis strange. It's focused on PG things you can do with balloons. Most of these balloon hacks ride the line of utility. Yeah, you can freeze a water balloon for your cooler, but you can also just buy ice. And at least one of these is almost entirely useless. (Who decorates a wine glass with poorly-tied deflated balloons?) However, there's one in here you haven't thought of and it is actually a pretty wonderful idea. Mr. Hacker creates chocolate bowls with a balloon that appear simple to make and the end product is, even if your bowls don't end up as even as his, good looking. Worst case scenario, you've got some ugly chocolate you can serve ice cream in before you eat the chocolate bowl. You've still won the day.Check out the full slate of balloon hacks, including the chocolate bowls and a crazy mega-sized kinder treat hack, in the video above.Sign up here for our daily Thrillist email, and get your fix of the best in food/drink/fun.Dustin Nelson is a News Writer with Thrillist. Recipe created by Diane Morgan Vibrant, delicious, takes less than an hour to make...this treat makes a perfect gift for the holidays. It's one of 13 ideas from Stir! Mix! Bake! Give! (This recipe requires an instant-read thermometer to check the temperature of the melted chocolate.) Servings: Makes about 1 pound Ingredients 1/2 cup shelled, dry-roasted, salted pistachios , coarsely chopped3/4 cup coarsely chopped sweetened, dried tart cherries1/2 cup toasted pumpkin seeds1 pound bittersweet chocolate (at least 64 percent cacao), finely chopped Directions Line an 11" x 17" baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine pistachios, dried cherries, and pumpkin seeds in a bowl. Set aside 1/2 cup of mixture. To temper chocolate: Using a microwave, place 3/4 of chocolate in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl (set aside remaining chocolate). Program microwave at 50 percent power. With bowl uncovered, heat chocolate for 30 seconds and then stir with a rubber spatula. Repeat, heating for 30 seconds and then stirring, until almost all the chocolate in the bowl is melted, about 4 minutes total. Using an instant-read thermometer, check temperature of chocolate. It should be no more than 115°. If it hasn't reached desired temperature, continue to heat (in 10-second increments). Then add reserved chocolate and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth and thermometer reads 88° to 90°. Chocolate is now tempered. Stir nut mixture into bowl containing chocolate. Using an offset spatula, spread chocolate in an even layer, about 1/4 inch thick, on the parchment. Sprinkle with reserved 1/2

I saw a video clip where the world-famous French chef Jacques Pepin used an incredible technique to make a version of these chocolate bowls. In the recipe described below, white and dark chocolate are gently tempered together until warm and smooth. You inflate some birthday balloons to a small size, and dip the tops of the balloons gracefully in the warm liquid chocolate mixture to cover the top section of the balloon. The balloons are then placed carefully on plastic wrap on a plate or sheet tray, and allowed to cool in the fridge and freezer; the balloons are subsequently deflated, and removed gently from the chocolate bowls. If this recipe doesn’t work out perfectly for you the first time, don’t get discouraged—working with tempered chocolate and chocolate-covered balloons is difficult! The following recipe makes about 4 small chocolate bowls. If the balloons are inflated with too much air, they can break the chocolate bowls when you try to deflate them later.Arrange a small sheet tray with a tight layer of plastic wrap.*This is where your chocolate-covered bowls will sit.Melt half of the white and dark chocolate chips gently in a small sauce pot on the stove over medium-low heat.Stir gently with a rubber spatula as the chocolate gently melts and heats up.Add the remaining white and dark chocolate chips once the first round is almost melted. When the chocolate is smooth and has completely melted, transfer to a small plate.Quickly and gently dip the top part of each inflated balloon in the warm chocolate mixture,
